How to measure. Laser Distance Meter Guide

Calibration

Before making any measurements Calibration of the camera must be done.
You need to make calibration ONLY ONCE per device, but if you want to re-calibrate your device for any reason select Calibration option in Menu.

You would need to select any object from the list (sheet of paper, credit card, etc.) or define your custom object to calibrate your device.

In order to make a calibration please  follow these steps:

  1. Go to Preferences and select an object with known size from the list or use Custom option (last in the list) to specify the width or height of the object.
  2. Place thу object  at a defined distance from the camera.
  3. Point your camera or make a picture of the object using Camera button.
  4. Align ROL on the screen with the object boundaries*.
  5. Touch Calibration button.

Note:

ROL - length of reference object used for calibration or distance measurement.
Use SHORT TOUCH on Units, ROL or Calibration Distance views to make quick changes.
LONG TOUCH on ROL turns Custom option automatically and allows you to enter ROL value.
LONG TOUCH on Calibration Distance gives you a list of objects you can use for calibration.

*LONG TOUCH on Calibration Button starts automatic detection of the black bar on a credit card and aligns ROL automaticaslly. It is EXPERIMENTAL feature that should be used only with a credit card as a reference object and ROL position has to be checked and corrected if detection is wrong. Accurate calibration is very important for further measurements.

Manual Mode

After calibration you are ready to measure distances to any object with known size.

In order to make a measurement follow these steps:

  1. Make a picture of an object you want to measure distance to.
  2. Select a reference object or feature with known size from the list or use Custom option (last in the list) to specify the width or height of the object.
  3. Alight blue ROL with the reference object.
  4. Check results in the left top corners in selected units.

Note:

ROL - length of reference object used for calibration or distance measurement.
Use SHORT TOUCH on Units, ROL or Calibration Distance views to make quick changes.
LONG TOUCH on ROL turns Custom option automatically and allows you to enter ROL value.

Automatic Mode

After calibration you have an option to make automatic measurements. In this mode the black bar of a credit card is used as a reference object and it is automatically detected.

How to measure:

Place a credit card on a surface you want to measure distance to with the black bar VISIBLE to your phone camera.
  1. Aim the cross-hair (laser spot) at the black bar and make a picture.Length of the black bar will be detected automatically and ROL will be aligned.
  2. If the bar is not detected, try again with taking a new picture.
  3. Check results in the left top corner in selected units.

Note:

For better detection result, please make sure that the black bar appears on the picture with even color and does not have any reflections and glows. Credit card should be parallel to the camera.

If you save measurement results as screenshots and share it, please MAKE SURE YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION IS NOT VISIBLE. You are sharing your information on your own risk.
